Tips for Success

BE YOURSELF. Do not adopt a new personality just because of recruitment! Each chapter has its own personality and women that could be the perfect fit for you. Sororities are interested in the real you, not a fake front you put on for two weeks. Be yourself!

KEEP AN OPEN MIND. When you receive your schedule from your RC at the beginning of each round, you may not receive your top choices back. Don’t get discouraged. If you ask many women currently in sororities, they’ll say that their opinions of each chapter changed drastically during the course of recruitment. Each sorority may have up to 150 members, so don’t base your opinion on just one conversation! Similarly, you may not be asked back to as many sororities as some other women in your group, every woman will not end up in the same house, so keep an open mind and get excited about the chapters that did invite you back!

ASK ABOUT FINANCES. Do not be afraid to question the financial obligation of joining a sorority. Feel free to ask your Recruitment Counselor, as well as sisters in each chapter.

ASK ABOUT VALUES. When you join a sorority you are becoming a member of a lifetime sisterhood. Don’t be afraid to ask about the morals and ideals of the chapter to see if they resonate with what you find important.  You will be doing a values activity during orientation, that will help you narrow down what is important to you and how you can convey those values during recruitment.

STICK WITH IT. At times recruitment may seem stressful, but have fun with it! This is an opportunity to meet hundreds of great women.

Frequently Asked Questions

OUTSIDE OF RECRUITMENT PARTIES, CAN I TALK TO SORORITY WOMEN?

To ensure a fair and pressure-free process, there is a period of limited contact between sorority women and Potential New Members when not at recruitment events. From the day Potential New Members arrive on campus until the end of recruitment, preplanned contact is prohibited between you and sorority women. This is an extremely important rule. If a sorority member contacts you, she is putting her entire chapter at risk for judicial sanctions and is undermining the spirit of our Panhellenic community. You have the right to a confidential and fair recruitment process.

HOW LIKELY IS IT THAT I GET A BID?

If you fully participate in the recruitment process, this includes attending all parties you are invited back to, it is unlikely you will not receive a bid. On preference night, if you have two chapters remaining it is also important to rank both chapters you attend. By eliminating or only choosing one, you reduce your chances of receiving a bid.

DO I HAVE TO ACCEPT MY BID?

Although you do not have to accept your bid on bid day, we remind you that if the chapter extended you a bid, they did so for a reason! It is likely that chapter has values that align with yours and can see you fitting into their sisterhood, even though it may not be apparent to you initially on bid day. Should you chose not to accept your bid regardless of the reason, you cannot join another Panhellenic chapter or go through recruitment again until Fall of 2022! If you are feeling unsure about your bid, your RC can help you figure out the best option for you during bid day!

WHAT IF I DIDN’T FIND MY HOME DURING PANHELLENIC RECRUITMENT?

After talking to your RC about your options, if you choose to withdraw from the recruitment process before bid day, you still have a few outlets to explore before deciding greek life isn't for you!it is important to remember their recruitment is also based on mutual selection, and you are not guaranteed a bid.

If you are thinking that the Panhellenic Council might not be the place for you, NAU also has United Greek Council organizations on this campus! Each organization has their own values that are based on supporting typically underrepresented groups of students on campus. Their recruitment takes place after formal Panhellenic recruitment ends!
